The second pair of mittens are inspired of mittens I found in an old magazine of Amirisu .They are made in Tove ,also a yarn 100 % wool, and the mittens are going to be felted a little too so they are going to be warmer.http://textilejoy.blogspot.com/http://www.blogger.com/profile/12416633152163195683noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9920416.post-90848213084694073452019-02-20T09:09:00.000-08:002019-02-20T09:09:08.960-08:00

Annas mittens ,a reconstruction of mittens she made for me many many years ago.The colors and the patterns are inspired by sami mittens and hand weaved bands in the area of Jukkasjärvi and Karesuando.
I have been knitting in Siessa,a "kamgarn" 6 ply in wool, and I have bought the yarn on https://shop.stoorstalka.com/sv/start.html

To do these types of patterns are very very relaxing to knit.http://textilejoy.blogspot.com/http://www.blogger.com/profile/12416633152163195683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9920416.post-51201914159544132902018-12-26T04:54:00.001-08:002018-12-26T04:54:30.747-08:00A winter weaving in "bunden rosengång"

Today it's the first Sunday in Advent and we have candles brightening the day. It's a very short period of daylight here in the north. This time a year I try to knit socks to the family and I'm giving it as a Christmas gift

Dear all

Our workshops in different pattern traditions in Sweden have ended.6 weekends from September 2016 to April 2017 filled with inspirations ,pattern, yarns, needles, knitting and a lot of knitting chats.Wonderful weekend in Stockholmon Handarbetets vänner on Djurgården.
The mittens in to the left is i reconstruction of a pair of mittens I'v got from a very good knitter and she also made other handicrafts.A women who tried to earn money both as a farmer and a handicraft women.I think it could have been about 1968 or so.The pattern is a combination of different small patterns. The colours she used was red, blue and yellow. These colours were also, still are popular among the lapplanders when they are doing mittens for special situations. It can also be green colours.
When you are looking at folkart costumes you find some of these colours and maybe other too .

https://www.google.se/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=julkkasj%C3%A4rvi+vantar

The white one is also made in wool,Per Gynt, and in a little lace pattern.Really so nice to knit. These mittens are also made more for special situationshttp://textilejoy.blogspot.com/http://www.blogger.com/profile/12416633152163195683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9920416.post-31659560582732791072017-01-18T02:04:00.000-08:002017-01-18T22:55:30.641-08:00Skogsmörker -a wristwarmer in Bohusstickning

The first wristwarmer is ready. It's not blocked but you maybe can see the soft fluffy surface. The yarn is made by 50% Merinowool and 50% Angora. As there are many colours ,1 black ,4 green and 3 blue/blue green colurs there has been hard to knit but in daylight.Yes I have been ripping up more than one time but I'm very satisfied with the result.Number 2 is on the needles now.

In this link you can see a modern variation of Bohus knitting but they have used other types of yarn and the designer has done a version of her own.The typical way to do the pattern is to knit some purl stitches here and there.
http://knitty.com/ISSUEw15/PATTzazie/PATTzazie.php

Here you can find a picture of the one I have done but there is a variation of colour in one "pattern" on the wristwarmer
http://www.angoragarnet.com/se/bohus-stickning/kollektionen/skogsm%C3%B6rkret-20514194
There are many different patterns for different products and almost every item is made in the yarn with Merinowool and Angora.
The second workshop is about pattern traditions from Gotland and Halland. The roses on mittens from Gotland are really my favourites, both in the past and now.All the mittens are knitted in 100% wool. The ones on the needles are made by yarn made on Gotland. The kit is bought from http://huskroken.se/.

On google.com you can find many pictures stickat från gotland.

On Handarbetets vänner in Stockholm we are learning more about some knitting tradtions in Sweden. The first weekend we have had Skåne .We used needles 1,25mm and white lamb wool yarn. The patterns we are using are from a special sort of "cardigan".

The stars can be all over the knitted one, despite the start.Afterwards they dyed the knitted in red, green or other colour. It's hard to knit patterns in darker colours .This one has no special patterns on but decorations with ribbons.I really like this "spedetröja" made by our teacher Karin Kahnlund. It would be nice to have one.Still it's only a dream.

Here you find pictures of many different ones.Enjoy.

Next meeting is October 15 and 16 and I hope I can decide if it's going to be mittens or wristwarmers.I have also some more homework I can do.It would be nice knit and decorate something inspired by the traditons from the "spedetröja"

We have 5 weekends more .Next time it's going to be Gotland and Bingehttp://textilejoy.blogspot.com/http://www.blogger.com/profile/12416633152163195683noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9920416.post-84006827538214938122016-08-23T06:13:00.000-07:002016-08-23T06:13:03.288-07:00On the needles

It's a lovely day and I have the possibility to take some photos of what I'm knitting.First of all I'm knitting a cardigan for a little baby, our second grandchild ,who hopefully is going to be born in the end of December or in the beginning of January 2017.I´m really enjoying knitting some lace and the yoke is also going to be in lace knitting. And so nice to do a small cardigan.Very very nice. It's made in Lanett from Sandnes Yarn(182 m/50g) in the colour 4312.

The socks are made in a yarn I have got from my swap friend,a yarn from Deborah Norville collection totally new for me.It's 50% wool,25%Bamboo and 25%Nylon but very easy to knit with. It's going to be very interesting to have them,I think they are not anything for the winter.

A lovely Midsummer is over and I'm soon going on a Nordic knitting conference in Kiruna. Looking forward learning more about knitting and embroidery on knitted things. We are about 120 knitters from different countries enjoying a week full of knitting .What a wonderful time.
Now I'm retired and as a help on the way into a new life I'v got a lot a flowers and many kind words.During the Midsummer we also have had a lot of wild flowers. My sister had picked so many lovely flowers. So fresh and so full of colours.

The last picture shows wonderful gifts on my birthday in May from M.Than you so so much. Hopefully I'm also going to do more quilted things when I'm not working any more.I have collected fabrics with flowers on .The Scissor "bag" with a flower on makes me so happy. And the small doily in soft colours.Yes flowers are going to be a theme for some of my handmade crafts.

I wish you all a nice new week.
These blocks are made for a swap friend on her birthday. It was a lovely sewing time with embroidery and handmade application of flowers.Yes it took time but I'm so satisfied with the result. The flowers are a has not, in reality ,so dark colours. Hopefully this way of doing blocks is something I want to do more times.

Wish you a creative Saturday

2 hearts on different fabrics and with different colors.Märta-Stina was a very good knitter and she has inspired many people doing the same patterns or doing their version of the patterns. The heart above is a designed version.Kerstin Hedvall has done this pattern for a tablecloth.I wanted to do one square in black and one in the colors Kerstin Hedvall used
http://www.solveigs-vantar.se/personer/maerta-stina-abrahamsdotter/

The square on the left is made in red 349 and in green 3787 on aida 14 / 1".I love it and it would be nice to do a little tablecloth,40cm x40cm, in this aida.It reminds me of Christmas,a holiday I really love.

Still I'm not ready with the course about black work.I used linen fabric , 21/ 1",and DMC 310.I think this heart in black would be nicer in thinner linen as I want to do it as a little decoration on some clothes.

Wish you a nice new month .
A gift from a dear friend made with kogin.,a name of the seam she used.
http://www.emmacreation.com/sub_kogin/
In Sweden we call it "vävsöm"
http://kalmarhemslojd.se/broderier/
Vävsöm /kogin in embroidery seems to have types of patterns you also can find on fabrics made in a loom
http://www.riksvav.se/files/solvogat/solvogat_2013-2.pdf
Often in Sweden you find they have been using wool thread on embroideries. In Japan it seems to be more often done with cotton threads

This little "purse" for small sewing items is made of cotton fabrics, applications and a type of lace.wonderful ,perfect work made with love.As you can understand these 2 friends are doing the most wonderful things and we also have a lot to learn from each other and to be inspired of.

I'm going to do blocks with applications during April, for example blocks for a birthday gift.

"Vävsöm" I'm going to do later this spring/summer.

First of all I had to do a little heart in weaving seam/kogin,a heart filled with love to my friends.Thank you so so much.

I'm so blessed having friends who during this year have been giving me gifts. The small teddy bears are from a dear friend in Japan. The third little one is something I bought some years ago. When we are using Skype our little grandchild he makes a big smile looking a these small friends. So happy.
I have been a member of a swap on Ravelry too and this is what my friend sent me.2 skeins of wool yarn from Ullcentrum in a very good quality, a knitting pattern for mittens,Lotus Mittens. And red tea.Wow this is so wonderful.Thank you S.
Next week I have holidays and I'm going to do some knitting and embroidery but I'm also going to do some stick walking and other winter sports. And yes I'm going to write some letters to friends. This morning we have - 14C and it seems to come more snow too.Small snow flings are falling down on our snowy landscape in the north of Sweden
