Birds in the air

The Birds in the air is an easy block to do and I really love easy ones. The fabrics get the opportunity to show their beauty. The fabrics from the Civil War time mostly have not the bright colours .

Log cabin blocks

Log cabin blocks made in reproduction fabrics with patterns from the Civil War period.
I'm going to follow a sew along. There are both easy and more advanced blocks to use. Every block has a short story too.For me the patterns on the fabrics are very interesting.

A little" toilet bag" made by stripes

The little "toilet bag" is made by stripes from something striped for a log cabin quilt. It's a fabric from the past, something used before in a bed.A very nice pattern on it too.It reminds me of the childhood.Nice memories. My mother often used it when she was weaving rugs and you could as a child look at the and sometimes find a stripe of something you have had.My father often found something from a shirt. My mother told him that he had been using the shirt too much and she needed that patter/colour.And it's very good for the environment to recycle. The theme in the work shop this weekend is recycling.Very very good.
I wish you a nice Sunday

Happy Valentine

We have had a sewing together on a yahoo-group I'm a member of and we got the possibility to use a pattern from www.lappedesign.no called Julehjerter.this has been very nice to do and I'm so impressed of all the different variations this pattern give.
The size
6"x 11 1/2"

I wish you all a lovely Valentine day.

A Christmas quilt-along 2011

http://shakerwoodquilts.blogspot.com/p/2011-christmas-quiltalong.html

The quilt-along fascinates me as the theme is "stars".The first star is the one you can see above. When I made the first one of two I observed that the solid fabric is not in a good quality so I have to change it.What I also found out is that the pattern is not so easy to make so the blocks take time to do.The printed fabrics are "Tilda fabrics" .

Broken needles

>

Here you can read about the celebration of the broken needles.

"In the Hari-Kuyo ceremony, Japanese women gather once a year on Febuary 8th at Shinto shrines or Buddhist temples to thank their worn out needles and pins for good service."

A new fabric bowl

With 2 pieces of fabric in off-white, 2 small squares of rose fabrics and a heavy weight fusible interfacing I made this bowl. For what?Well just now it's only an eye candy.
Enjoy.

PS.We learnt how to do bowls on the workshop we had on Folkhögskolan(Textile Art).DS
