A white winter day-a Christmas gift and a new knitting

Today I changed a little and the white and off-white are the colours I prefer today.

First a picture of a beatiful flower arrangement in white we have got from our dear M ,an arrangement she did for us as a Christmas gift.We love it very much.
Yesterday our son and his lovely M left Sweden after about 10 days of holidays and I had to focus on something new.On http://kammebo.blogspot.com/2010/11/halsduksmonstret.html

row 7..... must end with yo,k1,yo,k2,p2,k3

you can find the pattern.I 'm knitting in Peer Gynt with needles 4.It's going to have a tiny width ,maybe a little bit too small but...
I wish you a nice day

2.A lovely redwork embroidery with a nice scene when you get Christmas gifts.Could you be anything but so happy when you see this?!?

3.A beautiful bag full of summer feelings in patchwork and embroideries,on the back I found a little cat and in the front a flower and a butterfly. And we have between -30C and -20C.

Thank you so so much. You sent an air of summer in our cold white winter landscape.

3 blocks from the mystery

The mystery blocks are done and this is a minimalistic version of it with red, whith and black. Now I have to choose what to do of it.Merete give examples as cushions ,a tablerunner or small squares for the table. My background fabric is white with some grey dots.Or do I choose black for the frame?Or do I something without a fram?

Here you find the blog of the designer and if you don't understand swedish she aslo has links in english for the different clues and you can find 3 examples of what she has done.

A new book page on the theme forest and animals

The book page is made for a swap friend and I really had a great joy making it.As you see I started with the background "twisting" 2 different green fabrics.Sewing the "twists" on the background. Then I made a triangle with fiber fill in as a tree and and application of a tree in gold printed fabrics. Some embroidery with threads and beads.A type of 3 D.
(My english is not so good but I hope you understand what I mean)

Sewing blocks for swap friends

This weekend it has been an adventure to do blocks for different swap friends and try to find out what green, brown, red, pink or whatever they wished.I'm very fond of blue but this weekend when I did blocks with green fabrics I really found out this is a colour I seldom use but it's a lovely calm one.I think I really love the blocks with green fabrics(made in Japan) in combination with the red roses on white(Tilda fabric) and the green once in 3 different green colours. And maybee you all know I love flowes and red roses symbolize love.

We have got a lot of snow and more or less it looks like a Christmas landscape.I hope there are not going to be car accidents today,

A trip to Luleå

A new day and I feel so happy for the trip to Luleå.We were visiting an exhibition on Norrbottens museum,Krona och krans,an exhibition about wedding traditions now and from the past.
http://majapiraja.wordpress.com/2010/10/04/krona-och-krans-smycka-till-fest-och-brollop/
On internet I found a blogger showing some of the things I also l...oved to see.In the past you had for example flowers made of paper, really a long time ago,but I think we now have some brides using paper flowers or flowers in other materials. And the crowns made in different materials. So so creative and so beautiful. What fascinated me very much were the lovely mittens for the celebration. Most of them very decorated and made in wool or...no in silk yarn.

My sister and I we also were haveing a nice lunch, lovely "fika" with cakes and many lovely chats. We were walking a lot and we had rain, snow and sunshine.A long lovely day.
What a day!

Japaneese blocks.

All the day ,from early morning to late evening we were learning how to do blocks in a japaneese way.I did it all by hand.Very relaxing. Some also used sewing machine. This way of doing blocks give you the opportunity to use small squares of fabrics or small embroideries or maybe fabric flowers I have seen in japaneese books.
I used a square ,4",that gives the size of the block. You also have a circle of fabric, bigger than the square and the batting, for the background and the "frame".

My Sunday walk along the river and Elsa Beskow

During the weekend I took a walk along the river and suddenly I saw a "mushroom",a non eatable one,but one I was so fond of in my childhood.Elsa Beskow(1874-1953) made many lovely paintings in books for children. When I started reading we had a book full of her paintings and especially the small "people" with a hat in red with white dots were/are my favourites. It also reminded of different stories about Santa. The pictures are from "Vill du läsa? 11 by Besow-Siegwald.(Stockholm 1950.)It seemed to be a kind and beautiful world we were living in.Now we also have stamps with a part of her paining on.

Wishing you a nice new week

A fabric book page from Monika

After a long day at work I had a little package in the postbox.I'm in a swap where we do book pages in fabrics/mixed materials.I wish pages with the theme "flowers and beads" and Monika has done a card with a flower in wool/silk? and a lovely bead embroidery.Around the flower in one of my favourite colour, she made machine quilting in silver thread on a fabric with dots in blue/silver.A page with a nice contrast.

Workshop in printing and dying .

For this little fabric page I used handdyed fabric and the little picture in the middle is made of fabric used when you tried the different colours and I also printed some wheels on it.Then I have made embroidery both with yarn and beads.

Here we used both paintsticks and ordinary printing colours

We also made a form and used lovely Markal paintsticks ,iridicerande bought on www.canvasshop.se

My first printing is made on a recycled fabric and I'm really happy for theese patterns. Now I just wonder what to do of it.

A friend in the group dyed linen fabrics in blue and printed with a part of a crochet doily these lovely flowers.

The workshop started with dying fabrics, yarn and lace.I tried to use different fabrics with different surface för projects later on.As you can see I have a favour for certan colours.I love them really.

Anna, mittens made in wool and afterwards felted

http://vackravantar.blogspot.com/2010/08/monster-augusti-2010-anna.html
You can find the pattern both in swedish and english.
Made in 2 threads of Peer Gynt(5252) on 7mm.The cuff is longer than on the pattern. As we have rather cold in autumn and winter it's good to have them warming up not only the hand.It goes fast to knit a mitten but with the yarn I used I got too big holes so I had to put the in the washing machine on 40 gr.Perfect mittens now.

Mittens in Noro Silver thaw

Today my eldest son and his lovley M are going to be married.

July 24 and the day we have been preparing for a long time.
I made the ring cushion in silk fabrics and bead embroidery. The circle reminds us of the the country they are
living in now but also the north of Sweden where we live and summer days with nearly no darkness.Today the sun is really shining here both in the sky but also in our hearts. We wish the young couple a happy life together.

Ribbon embroidery

On a blog
http://lolly13.zoomin.se/blogg/bandbroderifornyborjare.html
I found the SAL in ribbon embroidery and I decided to follow her instruktions. All is in swedish but you can see the pictures showing different steps. What was really new for me was the japanese stich for the leaves.I used silk fabric and the ribbons in the kit are azlon ribbons ,really nice to use.The roses are in spiderstitches and the knots are french knots made with 3 strands of varigated DMC.

What a great start of a new day to do ribbon embroidery.

I wish you a lovely new day

It's a sunny morning and soon I'm going to work.As you can see there are more flowers now and in the sunshine they are so so beautiful. On Sunday we had the Mother's day and I could do some granny squares for a bag.The granny squares are so lovely to do.The coloured yarns I have used are the ones who were left after the weaving "bed covers" in a weaving group.I have used "lefts" with the lenght of about 20". I had the happiness to have the possibility to buy some of them.

During the week I'm also doing a ring cushion but it's going to be a top secret until July 24 when my son and his girlfriend are going to be married in our church. What i can say the flowers above give me a lot of inspiration. We are so happy for that and it's a great honour for me to do one.
Well now it's time to go to work.
Why not do some granny squares you to?!?!

I wish you a nice day
