Workshop with Angela Madden

Last weekend we had a workshop with Angela Madden.
http://www.angelamadden.com/
We were working with flowers in different ways.First she learnt a way of doing a pattern of a flower and the tulip I have done is about 85% from a pattern she gave us.The fabrics are handdyed exceot of the fabric for the petals

The second is a fantasy flower made on handdyed fabric with different parts of different "silkflowers".This was so funny to do.The quality we got is for cards or a small decoration, not anything to wash in the washing machine.

Crazy block

I have started doing a crazy quilt block I'm going to do a lot of stitches on and I'm also going to use beads ,lace and ribbons. If you want to see what the participants already have don you can go to

"VÄffla"

Yesterday evening,March 25,we had this lovely dessert as a celebration of Maria, the mother of Jesus.9 months until Christmas. The time goes very fast.

A very good friend of mine has done a very nice article about Maria, only in Swedish, but the painters are wellknown and you can there also see differnt interpretations of Maria.

Birds in the air

The Birds in the air is an easy block to do and I really love easy ones. The fabrics get the opportunity to show their beauty. The fabrics from the Civil War time mostly have not the bright colours .

Log cabin blocks

Log cabin blocks made in reproduction fabrics with patterns from the Civil War period.
I'm going to follow a sew along. There are both easy and more advanced blocks to use. Every block has a short story too.For me the patterns on the fabrics are very interesting.

A little" toilet bag" made by stripes

The little "toilet bag" is made by stripes from something striped for a log cabin quilt. It's a fabric from the past, something used before in a bed.A very nice pattern on it too.It reminds me of the childhood.Nice memories. My mother often used it when she was weaving rugs and you could as a child look at the and sometimes find a stripe of something you have had.My father often found something from a shirt. My mother told him that he had been using the shirt too much and she needed that patter/colour.And it's very good for the environment to recycle. The theme in the work shop this weekend is recycling.Very very good.
I wish you a nice Sunday

Happy Valentine

We have had a sewing together on a yahoo-group I'm a member of and we got the possibility to use a pattern from www.lappedesign.no called Julehjerter.this has been very nice to do and I'm so impressed of all the different variations this pattern give.
The size
6"x 11 1/2"

I wish you all a lovely Valentine day.

A Christmas quilt-along 2011

http://shakerwoodquilts.blogspot.com/p/2011-christmas-quiltalong.html

The quilt-along fascinates me as the theme is "stars".The first star is the one you can see above. When I made the first one of two I observed that the solid fabric is not in a good quality so I have to change it.What I also found out is that the pattern is not so easy to make so the blocks take time to do.The printed fabrics are "Tilda fabrics" .

Broken needles

>

Here you can read about the celebration of the broken needles.

"In the Hari-Kuyo ceremony, Japanese women gather once a year on Febuary 8th at Shinto shrines or Buddhist temples to thank their worn out needles and pins for good service."

Wristwarmers and 2 UFOs are ready

It has been a weekend and we have had our handicraft meeting.First I started to sew together the wristwarmers and they seems to be a soft and warm pair with a little glamour.
After our coffee brake I made handles to a little purse I started to do a year ago.The batic fabric pieces are from the stash at "school".Someone made some printings and I made machine stitching on them.As a decor I put some buttons on.2011 seems to be a good year.....until now.

The small "UFO" had a fabric, also from the stash, painted with silk colours.I made some bead embroidery and machine embroidery on.Now I'm satisfied with it but not the picture. The angels on the bottom seems to be....crazy but in reality not."A bad photographer."
