Happy Midsummer

I wish you all a Happy Midsummer.
Maybe you are picking seven sorts of flowers and put them under your cushion, during the night between the Midsummer eve and the Midsummer day, and you are going to dream about the one who is going to be your wife or husband.

A quilting weekend

I went on doing blocks in reprofabrics from the Civil War area.
http://civilwarquilts.blogspot.com/
On this blog you can get a new block pattern every week.Hopefully I get more time to do more of the blocks.Until now I have done the easiest blocks and I really love them.

A little memory from this weekend I took small small fabric sraps from a paper basket and made this little pincushion. Every little piece reminds me of people in the quilting group I was in this weekend. And you wonder why I did this?!?
I had no pincushion with me this weekend and had some troubles with the small needles and this also reminds me of the lovely group of people we were this weekend.

We were in LuleƄ in a quiltshop called Quilterian,The lovely owner of this shop has a blog

www.quilttopmaker.blogspot.com

Her shop is full of fabrics in in many patterns and colours.A little fabric heaven. And books,laces,buttons....................

New socks made by yarn I'v got for my birthday a month ago

Two pair of socks are ready, made by yarn I'v got on my birthday exactly a month ago.The blue pair is made in wool and he purple is made in a mixture of wool and other fibers. One more pair in purple is on the way. What I found out was that the way of doing the cuff Imade on the purple pair is a very good idea. The socks are very comfortable to wear.

Friday ,sunshine and a letter

It's a day when we have holidays,we can enjoy the beautiful sunshine ,the songs from the birds and a very green landscape. The postman came very early and what made me so happy is a letter from a pen friend in Japan, from a place nearer Fukushima than I knew before. To get a letter from M and the things she wrote about reminds me of the short distance between paradise and hell. They live with the earthquakes and the radiations so near.In this situation they have to go on and dear M I feel so happy you can start painting and quilting even if it's hard.

For me Japan is so near connected with handicraft made with a great perfection and beauty and they have stamps I really admire.Every letter with their stamps give me a special feeling. After the last catastrophy I really feel the paradox between the reality and the art.The last month I have got lovely small cranes in paper from a friend that gives me so much hope, they never give up.

Recycling

To use old curtains in a good quality and make eco bags and maybe also something necessary for a weekend is a very good idea. The bag to the left is made by the fabric which was handdyed by the fabric you can see in the "purse"up to the right.A great difference between the two fabrics.I really recommend handdying and you maybee get very fresh fabric.

The little "rug" is hooked by strings of cotton fabric.Hard to do as the cotton was not so easy to work with.A friend of mine made one in an old fabric but a fabric used many many times more than mine.

Workshop with Angela Madden

Last weekend we had a workshop with Angela Madden.
http://www.angelamadden.com/
We were working with flowers in different ways.First she learnt a way of doing a pattern of a flower and the tulip I have done is about 85% from a pattern she gave us.The fabrics are handdyed exceot of the fabric for the petals

The second is a fantasy flower made on handdyed fabric with different parts of different "silkflowers".This was so funny to do.The quality we got is for cards or a small decoration, not anything to wash in the washing machine.

Crazy block

I have started doing a crazy quilt block I'm going to do a lot of stitches on and I'm also going to use beads ,lace and ribbons. If you want to see what the participants already have don you can go to

A very good friend of mine has done a very nice article about Maria, only in Swedish, but the painters are wellknown and you can there also see differnt interpretations of Maria.

Birds in the air

The Birds in the air is an easy block to do and I really love easy ones. The fabrics get the opportunity to show their beauty. The fabrics from the Civil War time mostly have not the bright colours .

Log cabin blocks

Log cabin blocks made in reproduction fabrics with patterns from the Civil War period.
I'm going to follow a sew along. There are both easy and more advanced blocks to use. Every block has a short story too.For me the patterns on the fabrics are very interesting.

A little" toilet bag" made by stripes

The little "toilet bag" is made by stripes from something striped for a log cabin quilt. It's a fabric from the past, something used before in a bed.A very nice pattern on it too.It reminds me of the childhood.Nice memories. My mother often used it when she was weaving rugs and you could as a child look at the and sometimes find a stripe of something you have had.My father often found something from a shirt. My mother told him that he had been using the shirt too much and she needed that patter/colour.And it's very good for the environment to recycle. The theme in the work shop this weekend is recycling.Very very good.
I wish you a nice Sunday

Happy Valentine

We have had a sewing together on a yahoo-group I'm a member of and we got the possibility to use a pattern from www.lappedesign.no called Julehjerter.this has been very nice to do and I'm so impressed of all the different variations this pattern give.
The size
6"x 11 1/2"

I wish you all a lovely Valentine day.

A Christmas quilt-along 2011

http://shakerwoodquilts.blogspot.com/p/2011-christmas-quiltalong.html

The quilt-along fascinates me as the theme is "stars".The first star is the one you can see above. When I made the first one of two I observed that the solid fabric is not in a good quality so I have to change it.What I also found out is that the pattern is not so easy to make so the blocks take time to do.The printed fabrics are "Tilda fabrics" .

Broken needles

>

Here you can read about the celebration of the broken needles.

"In the Hari-Kuyo ceremony, Japanese women gather once a year on Febuary 8th at Shinto shrines or Buddhist temples to thank their worn out needles and pins for good service."

Wristwarmers and 2 UFOs are ready

It has been a weekend and we have had our handicraft meeting.First I started to sew together the wristwarmers and they seems to be a soft and warm pair with a little glamour.
After our coffee brake I made handles to a little purse I started to do a year ago.The batic fabric pieces are from the stash at "school".Someone made some printings and I made machine stitching on them.As a decor I put some buttons on.2011 seems to be a good year.....until now.

The small "UFO" had a fabric, also from the stash, painted with silk colours.I made some bead embroidery and machine embroidery on.Now I'm satisfied with it but not the picture. The angels on the bottom seems to be....crazy but in reality not."A bad photographer."

you can find the pattern.I 'm knitting in Peer Gynt with needles 4.It's going to have a tiny width ,maybe a little bit too small but...
